New call for proposals for scientific seminars

The RES sponsors the organization of scientific conferences during 2018. This call for proposals is open to all the researchers from the public R&D sector in Spain.

Results of RES Users’ Satisfaction Survey

RES users are in general very satisfied about the resources and services provided by the RES. The comments received have been analysed by the RES Users Committee and the RES Council to improve our supercomputing services in the future.

Dissemination activities in RES nodes during the Science Week

Several centres from the Spanish Supercomputing Network organize open days and other dissemination activities in the context of the Science Week 2017, from November 6 to November 19.

Part of the calculations of LIGO Project, winner of Physics Novel Prize, were performed in RES supercomputers

The LIGO project, awarded for having detected gravitational waves as predicted by Einstein, used the supercomputers MareNostrum, FinisTerrae and Caléndula through the UIB Relativity and Gravitation research group. The Spanish Supercomputing Network has provided 14 million computing hours to make the calculations of this project.

The RES forms part of the European Digital Innovation Hubs Catalogue

The Spanish Supercomputing Network was recently included in the catalogue of European Digital Innovation Hubs. This catalogue is an initiative from the European Commission linked to the Digitising European Industrial Strategy, with the objective to increase industry’s competitiveness through digital technologies.

Upcoming events
20 SEP 2018 12th RES Users' Meeting & 7th HPC Advisory Council Conference Location: València
Description: The RES Users’ Conference is an annual event addressed to all the current and potential users of the HPC resources of the Spanish Supercomputing Network.

Research highlighted results

Advances in high-performance computing create greater accuracy in turbulence modeling

Recent research published in Science by the Fluid Dynamics Group at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) attempts to gain new insights into the physics behind turbulent flows and reduce the gaps between simulated flows and the flows around real devices. The simulations were performed using the MinoTauro cluster at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center.

New nanotechnology strategy for future electronic devices

A new work published in the journal Nature Nanotechnology could be the basis to create faster and smaller electronic devices. The research has been carried out by researchers from the Materials Physics department of the UCM and the Institute of Materials Science of Madrid (ICMM-CSIC), users of RES resources,

Past events

The RES Users’ Conference is consolidated as an annual meeting point for knowledge sharing and results dissemination

The RES Users’ Conference brought together researchers working with HPC technologies, RES technicians and RES coordinators. More than 110 participants attended this event, which took place in Santiago de Compostela on September 28.

More than 50 experts in Earth Sciences attended the RES workshop about HPC and Modeling of Atmospheric and Ocean Sciences

This scientific seminar, which had the support of the Spanish Supercomputing Network, was organized as a parallel event of the Biannual Meeting of the Real Sociedad Española de Física (RSEF) on 18 July 2017.
