🌌🔭Can we use RES supercomputers to advance in gravitational-waves astronomy? 🔭🌌
Gravitational waves are ripples in space-time that travel at the speed of light and barely interact with matter, allowing us to study extreme events like black hole mergers that are completely invisible to traditional telescopes. But to understand real detections, we first need to simulate them with extreme precision.
The team led by Antoni Ramos (Universitat de les Illes Balears/IAC3) deployed and benchmarked the Spectral Einstein Code (https://lnkd.in/dWpH6GS7) on #Picasso (Centro Supercomputación y Bioinformática).

🔵 They successfully simulated generic orbital configurations of binary black holes with high accuracy
🔵 These simulations are critical to develop and calibrate the models needed to decode real gravitational wave signals detected on Earth
🔵 The project demonstrates that RES resources can host this type of sophisticated code and lays the foundation for future large-scale work
