The Spanish Supercomputing Network (RES) will provide 74 million of computational hours to researchers during the second quarter of 2017. The Access Committee has accepted 107 projects, and the awarded researchers will have access to RES resources from 1 July to 31 October.

The RES Access Committee has published the list of accepted activities for the next period (P2 2017). The RES will offer 74 million CPU hours to 107 research projects (from the 123 applications received). In this call, the amount of awarded computing time has been significantly increased in comparison with the 40 million hours offered previously. This increase is mainly due to Marenostrum4 in Barcelona Supercomputing Center, which will be operative from next 30 June. In addition, the new processors have a greater capacity per unit of time, and the RES now has a total peak performance of 12 PFlops.

Among all the awarded activities, most of the resources have been granted to research projects in Physics, Mathematics and Engineering (FI area), and in Chemistry and Materials Science and Technology (QCM area). More than the 80% of CPU hours requested by users have been granted, which should be used from 1 July to 31 October.

The selection of the proposals has been made based on criteria of scientific excellence, technical quality and impact of the expected results. The deadline for applications to get access for the next period is the 13th of September of 2017, at 11 a.m. (CET), through the online form of the RES Intranet. For further information about the access procedure, visit the Access to RES section in RES website.
