El Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas, Medioambientales y Tecnológicas (CIEMAT) se ha incorporado a la Red Española de Supercomputación (RES) con sus clústeres Xula y Turgalium, que aportarán 11,2 millones de horas de cálculo anuales a disposición de la comunidad científica.

Nasertic, empresa pública dependiente del Gobierno de Navarra, se ha incorporado la Red Española de Supercomputación (RES) con su Clúster Urederra. Con esta incorporación, la RES cuenta ya con 12 nodos de supercomputación que ceden parte de su capacidad de cálculo a la comunidad científica española.

El 21 de febrero fue inaugurado LUSITANIA III, el nuevo supercomputador de Extremadura, en la Fundación COMPUTAEX en Cáceres y con la participación de miembros de la Red Española de Supercomputación como José Ignacio Doncel, Subdirector General de Grandes Instalaciones Científico-Técnicas del Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación; José Luis González, Director General de CénitS-COMPUTAEX; Vicente Matellán, Director General de SCAYLE; y Sergi Girona, Coordinador de la RES y Director de Operaciones del BSC.

Magerit supercomputer has formalised its withdrawal from the Spanish Supercomputing Network and will no longer offer resources to RES users. The Centro de Supercomputación y Visualización de Madrid (CeSViMa), which hosts the Magerit node, has been part of the RES since 2007.

The new ICTS map was approved last November 6 by the Scientific, Technical and Innovation Policy Council. The Spanish Supercomputing Network was already part of the previous edition of the map, but the new version formalises the incorporation of three nodes. The ICTS map includes publicly owned infrastructures that are unique or exceptional and provide services to the research community through open, competitive calls.

The MareNostrum supercomputer is beginning operation and will start executing applications for scientific research on the 1st of July. MareNostrum 4, hosted by Barcelona Supercomputing Center, is entirely aimed at generating scientific knowledge and its computer architecture has been called ‘the most diverse and interesting in the world’ by international experts. It will provide more than 60 million computing hours per quarter to RES users.

MareNostrum 3 supercomputer was switched off last Friday 17 March, after almost five years of activity. This machine will be dismantled and the racks will be distributed among several RES nodes, where they will continue offering computing hours to RES users. During the following weeks, MareNostrum 4 installation will start in Torre Girona chapel. This new supercomputer will be twelve times more powerful and will be operative by July 2017.
