The Spanish Supercomputing Network (RES) will provide more than 88 million of computational hours to researchers during the second quarter of 2018. The Access Committee has accepted 77 research activities and the awarded projects will have access to RES resources from 1 July to 31 October 2018.

The RES Access Committee has published the list of accepted activities for the next period (P2 2018). This call has been very competitive and only the 45% of the requested resources have been granted: RES users requested 179 million of computing hours and the RES will offer 83.1 million hours with A priority and 5.3 million hours with B priority. In total, 77 research projects have been granted supercomputing resources. Among all the awarded activities, most of the resources have been granted to research projects in Physics, Mathematics and Engineering (35 million), followed by projects in Chemistry and Materials Science (23 million). From the total computing time granted, MareNostrum 4 will offer to RES users 63 million of hours this period.

In this period, the new racks coming from MareNostrum 3 have started operation in Tirant node (Universitat de València). On the other hand, the nodes Calendula and Pirineus are not able to provide service to RES users because they are updating their machines. In this call, the number of granted hours per activity have been increased and for the first time the average has exceeded one million hours per activity.

The selection of the proposals has been made based on criteria of scientific excellence, technical quality and impact of the expected results. The deadline for applications to get access for the next period is 13 September 2018, 11:00 a.m. (CEST), through the online form of the RES Intranet. For further information about the access procedure, visit the Access to RES section in RES website.
