Pre-reservations

RES Resources

Pre-reservations

If you are preparing a European Project that will require the use of HPC, Data, or AI resources from the RES, it is possible to make a preliminary reservation of resources linked to the project. This mechanism allows you to secure the necessary RES resources to execute the project in the event that the European Project is funded and guarantees these resources for a period of 2 years.

The preliminary reservation process is as follows:

  1. Project Definition: It is important to highlight that this procedure is reserved for European Projects that still need to undergo the financing approval process. If your project meets these conditions, it is likely to benefit from a preliminary reservation.
  2. Preliminary Reservation Request to RES: The user submits the request during one of the competitive RES calls held throughout the year, indicating in their application that it is a preliminary reservation request.
  3. Evaluation and Decision by RES: The request is evaluated following the usual RES evaluation processes, within a period of around 2 months. After this period, RES issues a decision approving or denying the preliminary reservation.
  4. Conditional Resource Reservation: If the preliminary reservation is approved, the requested resources are conditionally reserved. RES will issue a commitment letter confirming the availability of these resources to be included in the European Project application. This letter shows a commitment from RES to make the requested resources exclusively available for the proposed European Project if accepted.
  5. Submission of the European Application: With the preliminary reservation formalized, the researcher must submit the application for the European Project, including the commitment letter that guarantees the availability of the necessary computational resources for the Project. This letter also strengthens the proposal as it has already passed an evaluation process guaranteeing these resources.
  6. European Decision and Final Resource Allocation: If the European funding request is accepted, the preliminary reservation becomes an effective resource allocation. This allows the project to begin execution without delays, as it already has the backing of RES.
  7. Project Execution: Once the entire process is completed, the project uses the allocated RES resources for its development, requesting resources progressively through regular activities until the allocation is exhausted.
